Neighborhood House Programs
Since 1906, Neighborhood House has been helping diverse communities of people with limited resources attain their goals for self-sufficiency, financial independence, health and community building. Our services include early childhood education (including Head Start and Early Head Start), mentoring and tutoring, emergency referral services, self-sufficiency/employment classes and services (including ESL and citizenship), job placement and training, substance abuse services, transportation and outreach for the elderly and disabled and publication of the Voice newspaper. Annually, Neighborhood House serves over 13,500 individuals. Of those, 80 percent are refugees and immigrants.
Neighborhood House (NH) and the City of Seattle Human Services Department are partnering to offer year-round Family Center services to residents of High Point/West Seattle. Family Centers are places that welcome families, build relationships and offer information and experiences in which families are personally interested. We are seeking a qualified individual to coordinate High Point Family Center programs, activities and services. This person will focus on community/family outreach, education through increased awareness of the Family Center and to establish and enhance community relations with the Center and other providers to bring about family self-reliance and empowerment.
- Work with Family Center Manager to establish and enhance community education through assisting team members with ongoing and newly established center activities.
- Organize and facilitate youth and parent activities that promote youth education, health, family/school involvement and family stability.
- Provide limited information, referral, and advocacy to link clients to appropriate services, both within NH and with external partners in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and organize community-wide activities, celebrations, forums and resource fairs that promote social interaction and mutual support.
- Recruit families for program activities through community outreach activities with diverse cultures within the High Point community.
- Assist in outreach and public/community relations to promote the High Point Family Center.
- Maintain good working relationships with community service providers, government funders and housing authorities.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with program partners and volunteers.
- Provide translation and interpretation services for designated language as needed
- Assist in developing promotional and activity materials to reach targeted languages and literacy abilities.
- Assist in day-to-day scheduling of activities and monthly calendar.
- Participate in outcome data collection and tracking.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor Degree in Social Work or related field preferred. Experience accepted in lieu of degree.
- 2 years experience working in social work or human services
- Experience in curriculum development and facilitating family or youth group workshops.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Language skills sufficiently strong to prepare documents in English.
- Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese preferred; Ability to translate English documents to primary language in an accurate and timely manner.
- Three years professional experience working with multicultural youth, families and diverse cultures.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
- Demonstrated ability to support and work effectively with families.
- Demonstrate experience or ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multilingual environment with co-workers, clients and partners.
- Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include productivity/personal responsibility, customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurial, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Must have reliable, independent transportation for travel in King County.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including some weekends or evenings, as necessary.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must pass the Washington State Patrol background check (rechecked every two years).
- Current First Aid certification (within 30 days of employment).
- Current CPR certification (within 30 days of employment).
- Child/Adult Protective Service Training (within 90 days of employment)
